On October 9, the latest Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2025 was published, in which four universities from Latvia were named among the 1907 best universities in the world, including the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU), which entered the prestigious ranking for the fourth year in a row, improving performance in certain areas of activity .

The Times Higher Education ranking evaluates research-active universities from around the world using 18 criteria in five areas of activity: teaching (the learning environment), research rnvironment (volume, income and reputation), Research Quality (research influence), industry (knowledge transfer) and international outlook (international staff, studentsand research collaborations). The achievements of universities are measured with the help of criteria and only the best universities in the world are included in the ranking.

Summarizing the results in all areas of activity, LBTU is ranked in group 1501+ overall. LBTU obtained the highest scores in the industry index, where it received 25,4 rating points, and in the international profile index, where it received 25 rating points, gradually improving the indicators of the previous year. But then followed studies with 20,3 rating points, increasing their performance by 4 rating points (compared to 2024), research quality – 16,6 rating points, also indicating a point in this direction of activity, while the indicator research environment - LBTU received 16,2 rating points.

The new evaluation methodology was used for the second time in the creation of the rating, therefore LBTU has maintained a stable position in five areas of activity and rating points are gradually being improved in several areas of activity.

In addition, in the general index, LBTU has improved its position and received 10,5 to 24,1 rating points, which has increased compared to 2024 - from 9,7 to 22,7 rating points.

Four Latvian universities were also evaluated in the National ranking, and LBTU ranks 3rd in it.

The leading three places in the latest ranking are occupied by Oxford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. In total, 1907 universities from 108 countries entered the ranking.

LBTU has won the Times Higher Education World University Ranking for the sixth year in a row. For the first time, the university ranked in this ranking in 2019, which was also followed by participation in various other Times Higher Education industry rankings, which confirmed a high assessment separately in each of the directions implemented by LBTU - in biosciences, engineering sciences and social sciences.
