LBTU continues to demonstrate strong performance in the Times Higher Education subject rankings

In January, the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025 for Social Sciences, Engineering, and Life Sciences were published. The Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) has once again been included among the world's best research-active universities.

A total of 2,238 higher education institutions were evaluated in the rankings, which is 334 more institutions compared to the previous year.

LBTU in THE Social Sciences Ranking

The THE Social Sciences Ranking evaluates higher education and research institutions active in communication and media studies, politics and international studies, sociology, and geography.

LBTU has maintained its position in the "801–1000" ranking group, the same as in the previous year. The university received the highest scores in the "Industry (Knowledge Transfer)" criterion—49.1 points, and the "Research Quality" criterion—30.3 points.

Social sciences represent one of the three key academic and research fields at LBTU, alongside engineering sciences and life sciences. Studies in social sciences are primarily conducted by the Faculty of Economics and Social Development (ESAF), offering higher education programs in sociology, economics, and management, as well as conducting interdisciplinary research.

LBTU in THE Engineering Ranking

In the THE Engineering Ranking, LBTU is placed in the "1251+" ranking group. The highest scores were achieved in the criteria "International Outlook"—23.6 points and "Research Quality"—22.4 points.

The engineering and technology field is the most widely represented academic and research direction at LBTU.

LBTU in THE Life Sciences Ranking

In the THE Life Sciences Ranking, LBTU is ranked in the "1001+" group this year. The university's strongest performance was in the "Industry (Knowledge Transfer)" criterion—49.1 points, and "Research Quality"—30.3 points.

Life sciences are one of the three primary academic and research fields at LBTU, alongside engineering and social sciences. The Faculties of Agriculture and Food Technology, Forest and Environmental Sciences and Veterinary Medicine conduct studies in this field.

LBTU was first included in THE Life Sciences Ranking in 2020.
