To promote innovation development and collaboration in bioeconomy at the international level, Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) has established a sustainable circular bioeconomy platform (HUB). This is the first such initiative in Latvia, and its goal is to significantly enhance the joint efforts of Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and the Baltic States in developing this sector and ensuring a sustainable future. The launch of the platform is part of the BOOST4BIOEAST project.

The international bioeconomy HUB has been created as a collaboration center for various stakeholders interested in sustainable, innovation-driven development and circular bioeconomy. Among them are policymakers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and the broader public across Europe. Together, the platform aims to promote the formation of strategic partnerships, develop action plans, and support policies that are necessary for the resilience and development of the bioeconomy sector in Latvia and beyond.

LBTU has proven itself as an international partner in bioeconomy research and, through this platform, has taken on a broader role as a sector ambassador, increasing awareness and support among European citizens.

"Our university’s strategic goal is to promote the sustainable use of natural resources, both through research and higher education programs. Over the last decade, we have expanded our activities not only nationally, where we are a strong player but also within the international community. The creation of the Sustainable Circular Bioeconomy HUB is an important step in bringing together our international partners, attracting new sector players, and jointly creating innovations for a sustainable and better future for everyone. By combining knowledge, resources, and innovations, we are laying the foundation for economic growth that aligns with Europe’s green course goals and meets the needs of society," says LBTU rector, professor Irina Arhipova.

The Bioeconomy HUB also focuses on strengthening human capital by providing opportunities for all stakeholders in the bioeconomy to develop their knowledge and skills. It also ensures access to various networks and resources, while promoting public understanding of the role and value of bioeconomy for future generations. In the coming years, the HUB will serve as a facilitator of cooperation between national and international bioeconomy participants.

It is important to note that the HUB will also support the expansion of BOOST4BIOEAST project activities at the national level, strengthening inter-ministerial coordination and ensuring Latvia's bioeconomy meets regional and global sustainability goals.

The HUB representatives invite all interested parties to join the platform and work together to create a sustainable, innovation-driven future. For more information, please contact Anna Vītola-Helviga (email: anna.vitola-helviga@lbtu.lv).
