To foster innovation development and collaboration in bioeconomy on an international level, the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) has established a Sustainable Circular Bioeconomy HUB. This is the first initiative of its kind in Latvia, aiming to significantly boost the collective efforts of Central and Eastern European, and Baltic states in developing the sector and ensuring a sustainable future. The HUB's launch is part of the BOOST4BIOEAST project.

The international bioeconomy HUB is designed as a collaboration centre for various stakeholders committed to sustainable, innovation-driven development and a circular bioeconomy. These stakeholders include policymakers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and members of society across a broad European region. The joint goals include fostering strategic partnerships, developing action plans, and supporting policies necessary for the resilience and development of the bioeconomy sector, both in Latvia and beyond.

LBTU has established itself as an international partner in bioeconomy research and, through this platform, has assumed a broader role as a sector ambassador, increasing awareness and support across Europe.

"Our university's strategic goal is to promote the sustainable use of natural resources through both research and higher education programs. Over the past decade, we have expanded our activities not only nationally, where we are a strong player, but also internationally. The creation of the sustainable circular bioeconomy HUB is a significant step towards uniting our international partners, attracting new players in the sector, and jointly creating innovations for a sustainable and better future for everyone. By combining knowledge, resources, and innovations, we are laying the foundation for economic growth aligned with the European Green Deal goals and addressing societal needs," said LBTU Rector, Professor Irina Arhipova.

The HUB also focuses on strengthening human capital, providing all stakeholders interested in bioeconomy with opportunities to develop their knowledge and skills. It ensures access to various networks and resources while promoting public understanding of the role and value of bioeconomy for future generations. In the coming years, the HUB will serve as a collaboration facilitator between national and international bioeconomy participants.

It is important to note that the HUB will also support the expansion of BOOST4BIOEAST project activities at the national level, strengthening inter-ministerial coordination and aligning Latvia's bioeconomy with regional and global sustainability goals.

HUB representatives invite all interested parties to join the HUB community and jointly build a sustainable, innovation-driven future. For more detailed information, please contact Anna Vītola-Helviga (email: anna.vitola-helviga@lbtu.lv).
