New year of studies will be unveiled by Imatriculation act

First year students, teaching staff and guests will gather on September 2 at 9.00 am in the courtyard of Jelgava Palace to jointly mark the start of the new year of study continuing a long - standing university tradition - the act of Imatriculation. The ceremony was started in 1971, during which new students are admitted to the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU).

First – year students are invited to gather outside Jelgava Palace (from park side) at 8.30 am to prepare for entrance to the university courtyard in a column of eight in a particular order – Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Food technology, Faculty of Economic and Community Development, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies.

During the act of imatriculationby speeches will perform LBTU rector Irina Arhipova, vice-rector for Studies Ilze Beitāne, vice-rector for science Gatis Vītols, vice-rector for finances Linards Sisenis, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, predecessor of the Jelgava State City Council Andris Rāviņš, LBTU Student – self-government, representatives of student corporations and associations, as well as representatives of the society "Latvijas Jauno zemnieku klubs". Sounding the international student anthem “Gaudeamus,” the young students will be officially imatriculated to become fully-fledged university students.

At the end of the formal ceremony, a cobblestone plaque with a year's figure will be laid in honour of first-year students on the pedestrian walkway outside Jelgava Castle, continuing the  tradition begun in 2012 - building the academic road. The cobblestone plaque symbolizes the academic path and the challenge it presents toward higher education,  as well as serving as a meeting place to share memories and to meet after finishing studies.

In order for the imatriculation act to be successful, each year one of the faculty is appointed as responsible for the procedures for the event, this year the event is  entrusted to the Faculty of Forest and Environmental Sciences.
