Support for Incoming Ukrainian Students and Academics
Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) welcomes Ukrainian students and academic staff, who have had to leave home due to the military invasion of the Russian Federation, to continue their work and studies in LLU.
LLU condemns the decisions of the Russian President and aggression of the Russian army against the Ukrainian people. As a university, we would like to extend our support to the Ukrainians who have had to leave their previous life behind and offer the possibility to continue their academic career.
Students
Students from Ukraine are admitted to LLU as mobility students according to the regulation of the Ministry of Education and Science. Originals of study documents are not required, but we would appreciate any electronic proof of student status (photos of transcript of records, screenshots, student ID numbers or anything else confirming the status of an existing student before 24.02.2022 in a Ukrainian higher education institution (HEI)). Students are invited to choose a degree programme that best matches their existing credentials from the list (https://www.llu.lv/en/degree-programmes).
Ukrainian citizens, who were HEI students until 24.02.2022 are entitled to state stipends (scholarships) from March to June 2022 (changes in regulations are expected for the next semester). LLU will help to apply for the stipend and provide the necessary documents. (The application process for a stipend is usually organised in-person)
Existing Ukrainian students at LLU can apply for scholarships for the next semester till 01.04.2022.
Academic staff
Academic staff and researchers are accepted on individual basis as employees of LLU, however if no positions are available, the state offers support in the form of a stipend.
Support available
Full time studies are free of charge to Ukrainian students till the current academic year, and so is student accommodation (if they were students prior to 24.02.2022). Ukrainian citizens are entitled to the same support as the local students.
If you have any questions or need support, please e-mail the International Cooperation Centre - Ms Ilona Puķjāne ilona.pukjane@llu.lv
We would also like to remind that Ukrainian citizens with biometric passport do not require a visa to enter the Republic of Latvia.
The Latvian Centre for Human Rights provides legal assistance to asylum seekers (https://cilvektiesibas.org.lv/en/asylum-seekers/)
