Foreign masters of food science receive higher education diplomas
After successfully defending the thesis, two foreign graduates from the academic master's study program "Food Science" joined the group of graduates of the Faculty of Food Technology of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, obtaining a master's degree in food and beverage technology.
The aim of the study program is to prepare qualified specialists for scientific, pedagogical and professional work in the food industry, who are able to creatively and independently work in food science field, industrial development and competitiveness in the European Union. The new specialists are also able to perform qualified work in food companies, accredited laboratories, scientific research institutions, as well as state supervisory and administrative institutions.
Graduate Marguerite Laure Ngouemazon has summarized the knowledge gained in her dissertation "Development of Cherry Juice and Syrup Pearls in Edible Coating". During her studies, she has developed skills to carry out independent activities in the field of food technology research, structuring scientific research and applying mathematical data processing models, as well as skills to perform independent scientific experiments, adapting to modern trends in food production and developing innovative products.
Mansi Das, on the other hand, carried out hes thesis on " Evaluation of bioactive compounds in garlic Allium sativum sativum and Allium sativum ophioscorodon", studying the effect of different food processing methods on soft-necked (Allium sativum sativum) and hard-necked (Allium sativum ophioscorodon) garlic. The young professional also evaluated the amounts of bioactive and aroma-forming compounds in fresh and processed samples, and finally analyzed the microbiological effects of garlic on the shelf life of minced beef.
"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world. Always follow your dreams and believe in yourself," said Mārtiņš Šabovics, Dean of the Faculty of Food Technology. He also reminded that the doors of the Faculty of Food Technology are always open and the faculty are ready to help if the need arises.
In January 2022, new specialists from the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Environment and Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Information Technology and the Faculty of Economics and Social Development joined the LLU graduates, while the Faculty of Forestry will close the winter graduation series on February 18. Graduations will continue in June, when graduates of all study programs implemented by the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies will receive diplomas.
The graduation took place in an epidemiologically safe environment, in accordance with national requirements. The covers of the nose and mouth were only temporarily removed during the photo shoot.
