Specialists get experience during seminar organised within project NovelForHeritage implementation (INT14)
Within the project LLI-444 Sustainable Integration of Novel Solutions into Cultural Heritage Sites / NovelForHeritage (Activity A.T3.2 Gathering, exchange and development of knowledge for the integration of contemporary concepts, forms and content into cultural heritage and nature sites - manor parks) a seminar was organized for the professional target audience - tourism specialists and landscape specialists, territorial developers, representatives of local governments. The seminar took place on December 1, 2021 and took place in two parts - a series of lectures and a practical workshop.
The lecturers shared their experience with the traditions of historical garden planning, the main values, the research methods of cultural and historical landscapes and the specifics of the reconstruction of historical parks today:
- The basics of the English park planning, its main values and characteristics (Kristīne Vugule, docent, Dr.arch.).
- How to carry out research on the history of the park and recognize the historical structure of the park in nature (Madara Markova, docent, Dr.Arch.).
- Preservation of historical evidence in parks as the structure and function of the park changes. Kemeri park reconstruction example in Latvia (Natalija Ņitavska, professor, Dr.Arch.).
Divided into groups, the workshop allowed the practical workshop to discuss the possibilities of historic gardens and parks, existing values and future development opportunities, based on existing potential and developing tourism infrastructure. The participants of the seminar worked on several topics, taking into account the tangible and intangible resources of historic gardens and parks:
- Surroundings, place and destination (physical) – elements that define the value of historic parks (resource listing). Tangible and intangible resources with value for the creation of tourism-related services in manor parks.
- Activities, actions, possibilities (audial, visual, kinesthetic), possible in manor parks.
- Possibilities manor park can offer as a tourism destination.
- Values of a manor park (possible values) The importance of a manor park (or park) in an urban environment, defined geographical area, natural area or any other place.
- Defining parks’ identity.
- Mission – what is a deliverable message after a visit to a heritage park (concentrate on common possible missions, considering descriptions of previous levels).
At the end of the seminar, as a result of a joint discussion, the development scenarios of possible historical territories were defined, examining all possible resources, opportunities and tools for attracting tourists and increasing the attractiveness of the place.
The continuation of the seminar took place on December 14, organized by the Lithuanian colleagues of the project and further developing the topics of the revitalization of historical parks, sharing experiences and discussing together, looking for better results for the development of tourism.
