LLU invites to the international academic conference on the quality of studies
January 29 at 10.00 (Riga time) an online international academic conference “Study Quality: Experience and Improvement” will take place, where representatives of business and academia will discuss the quality of studies and the challenges of achieving it through distance learning. At the conference, opinion leaders in the international environment will share their experience in the field of education and distance learning - futurist George Muir, digitization expert in tourism Nicholas Hall and associate professor of agricultural engineering Jiri Mashek - as well as LLU lecturers and students. Anyone interested is invited to participate in the conference.

Conference of the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) is an annual university tradition at the moment when the autumn semester is over and the spring semester is approaching. It has always brought together the academic staff of the university to discuss the trends of the current academic year, share its experience and jointly find solutions to various challenges in higher education.
This year LLU has opened the conference to the representatives of the academic staff of other universities in Latvia and abroad and, for epidemiological security purposes, has moved it to the digital environment, which has also allowed to expand the circle of potential participants.
Three opinion leaders in the international environment have been chosen as the keynote speakers at the conference. The conference with the report "The future of education" will be opened by futurist and business manager George Muir from Sweden. He has 27 years of experience in the business environment, developing companies such as IKEA and Udal Cuain AB. Mr. Muir is currently developing business and human resource strategies in US and Australian unicorns, as well as leading seminars on future work, well-being at work and the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence.
Next, digital solutions expert Nicholas Hall will talk about digitization in education "Innovating with Digital to Succeed with Remote Learning". He is the founder and CEO of Digital Tourism Think Tank and is widely considered as one of the world’s leading experts on digital trends and transformation in the field of tourism. With two decades of experience, there is hardly any DMO that N. Hall has not advised. He has been personally behind change for so many DMOs and continues to drive the conversation around industry trends today. N. Hall continues to grow and develop the #DTTT, helping it to evolve beyond digital to tackle existential topics, such as sustainable leadership. He also continues to speak at leading industry conferences on the biggest trends impacting the industry, as well as working on exciting projects and initiatives, together with public sector organisations who want to change the leisure economy for good.
Associate Professor Jiri Masek will speak on the topic "The educational process from the perspective of academic staff and students". He is an Associate Professor of Agricultural Engineering and Dean of the Faculty at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. J. Masek has many years of experience as a vice-dean in the field of studies and currently he is also a member of the International Advisory Board of the LLU.
Following the conference, LLU colleagues will also present various reports:

• Līga Paula “Between tradition and innovation: shortcomings and advantages of distance learning in sociology study programs”.
• Voldemārs Bariss, Ligita Vaita “International student survey: results and necessary actions”.
At the end of the conference, Ernests Brēdiķis, representative of the LLU Student Self-Government, will present a report “Remote learning from student viewpoint”.
The International academic conference is one of the activities of the project “Improvement of the Management of the LLU” supported by the European Social Fund. Its aim is to improve the quality of the content of LLU study programs and, by effectively using the available resources, to ensure better management of the higher education institution and increase of competencies and skills of the management staff.
