New study programmes in sustainable agriculture, sustainable forestry, biosystems machinery and environmental engineering for international students have been developed in English which will provide an opportunity to obtain a university degree in Latvia in fields that have so far been implemented only in Latvian.  Admission has already started, please use: apply.llu.lv.

The current offer of LLU study programmes will be expanded with four new study programmes: academic bachelor study programme "Sustainable Agriculture", academic bachelor study programme "Sustainable Forestry", academic bachelor study programme "Biosystems Engineering and Technologies" and doctoral study program me"Environmental Engineering".

The programmes were designed by the university’s academic staff from the Faculty of Agriculture, Forest Faculty, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Environment and Civil Engineering. In addition, cooperation partners, experts of Latvian research institutes and universities from other countries assisted in the development of the programmes, thus enriching their content with a combination of strong academic knowledge and international experience.

In February of 2020 the new programmes were licenced by the Studies Quality Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia therefore the students will be admitted starting from this summer. Although the programmes are primarily intended for international students and will be implemented in English, Latvian students are welcome to study in them as well.

On the whole, LLU is one of the leading universities of life sciences and technologies in the Baltic States implementing 61 study programmes in Latvian, of which 27 study programmes are also provided in English. The first international students enrolled in the 2015/2016 academic year, and in 2019/2020 the number of international students exceeded 100. The programmes of veterinary medicine, food science, business management and information technologies are the most popular among international students.

The development of new study programmes was supported by the European Social Fund project “Consolidation of LLU study programmes and development of new programmes” (8.2.1.0/18/A/007). The aim of the project was to decrease the fragmentation of LLU study programmes and to design four new study programmes in the languages of the European Union using the available resources. Its total funding was EUR 396,114.66, of which EUR 336,697.46 was financed by the European Social Fund.
