LLU is included in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Ranking

The Times Higher Education ranking measures research-active universities from around the world using a number of criteria in five lines of action: studies (study environment), science (volume, income, reputation), citation (science impact), international profile (teachers, students, research) and industry income (knowledge transfer). By using the criteria the universities achievements are measured and the ranking includes only the world's best universities.

The top three places in the latest rankings are held by the University of Oxford, the California Institute of Technology and the University of Cambridge. In total, however, nearly 1,400 higher education and research institutions from 92 countries worldwide are eligible according to the rankings quality measurements. The University of Latvia ranks among the top 801 - 1000 higher education institutions, however LLU and Riga Technical University rank in the group 1001+.

LLU has the highest achievements in science and knowledge transfer, competing also with the University of Latvia and Riga Technical University and ranking among the world's top 1000 higher education institutions in the category. According to the scientific indicators, the LLU has gained the 714th place and the 913th place in knowledge transfer.

“Getting into the rankings is an international recognition for the important work that our scientists have been doing for many years in various scientific disciplines - biosciences, engineering and social sciences. In addition, the rating results clearly show that we are strategically important to economic sectors and able to compete with other universities in knowledge transfer. We will use the rating results as a tool to evaluate our strengths as well as directions for improvement. As the advantage of the leading universities mentioned in the ranking is the funding available to them, which has never been available to the higher education institutions of Latvia, we consider LLU entry in the ranking to be an excellent achievement. We have been able to make effective use of the small amount of resources available for higher education and science. We will continue our journey to excellence in order to receive even higher recognition in the future,” says Irina Pilvere, LLU Rector.

So far, LLU has been ranked among the top universities in the QS European Developing and Central Asian Ranking, which lists the region's 250 best universities each year, but its entry into the Times Higher Education World Universities rankings show its international recognition and competitiveness on a much broader scale that now has significantly increased.
