LLU International Summer School starts with lectures on Latvian wood industry and forestry
On July 9th, International Summer School "Cycle of life - from tree seeds to high quality organic wood products" was opened at the Jelgava Palace, where forestry specialists and students from Colombia, Uzbekistan, Greece, Mexico and China were welcomed by the Rector of the Latvia University of Agriculture Irina Pilvere and the Jelgava City Council Chairman Andris Rāviņš.
After the opening ceremony, the first lessons started for the summer school students. Lessons will take place in different places in Latvia until July 16th. A week-long lecture cycle is planned with the help of the Forest Faculty, Latvian State Forest Research Institute "Silava" and other university partners. Practical classes, creative workshops and exploratory excursions in the forest and in different companies will be held for the participants of the summer school. The official closing of the summer school is scheduled for July 16th - at the Tērvete Nature Park.
The international summer school is supported by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, State Education Development Agency, Colombian Embassy in Warsaw, Latvia University of Agriculture, Latvian State Forest Research Institute "Silava", JSC "Latvian State Forests", Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Institute and the Jelgava City Council.
