Geodesy and land management scientists from different countries gather in Jelgava
From 10th to 12th of May LLU at the Faculty of Environment and Civil Engineering was held an international scientific conference "Baltic surveying", in which representatives from various countries made reports to provide information on current issues of land management and geodesy.
The aim of the conference is to bring together industry scientists from different countries to discuss current events, exchange views and share experiences. Therefore, at the conference as a whole will be read 31 report and available for viewing 11 stand reports.
Scientists discuss the land use policy, land cadastre and the need of land reform, emphasizing the specifics of each country. As acknowledged by a colleague from Lithuania, while talking about their own experience of land consolidation, land reform is an endless process and will probably never end. In addition, no less important aspect is the sustainable use of land resources, which is one of the main topics of the various national scientific reports. A separate conference section is dedicated to geodesy questions and methods on land surveying activities.
In turn, the conference plenary alongside colleagues from Lithuania, Estonia, Russia and Ukraine also spoke LLU Rector Irina Pilvere, reporting on the bio-economy development opportunities in Latvia and the importance of these processes in land management. Thus, the Latvian experience in Bioeconomy strategy formation was presented at the international land management scientists environment.
In the conference participation scientists from the Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Spain and Poland.
One of conferences aims is the extension of cooperation. Therefore, this year the conference was concluded within the framework of two cooperation agreements between the LLU and the Samara State Economic University and the Belarusian State University, thus opening up opportunities for both teachers and students for mobility and the implementation of joint research.
The conference is a long-standing tradition which is alternately organized by LLU, Alexander Stulginska University in Lithuania and the Estonian University of Life Sciences.
