Erasmus+ Studies

When choosing the foreign university, you should consider whether the courses offered will match the requirements outlined by LBTU and the language of instruction.
Apply for Erasmus studies abroad for the Spring semester of 2026 by filling out the application at exchange.lbtu.lv (Instructions on how to fill it in).
For guidance on choosing a university and exploring available opportunities, please contact your faculty coordinators (refer to the contact list).

Application documents before the studies
To apply for studies abroad, students must complete the application form at exchange.lbtu.lv until April 1 to qualify for the next autumn semester or October 1 to go abroad during the spring semester.
These can vary, but as a general rule student must submit:
Application form (must be filled online at exchange.lbtu.lv, In exceptional cases, if it is not possible to submit an application online, students may submit it in paper form, to Room 195 in Palace);
- OLA (Online Learning Agreement, www.learning.agreement.eu) or Learning Agreement for Studies (in paper form). Students must complete the "Before the Mobility" section, sign it, and submit it for approval to both their programme director and the coordinator at the host (foreign) university;
Transcript of Records;
Language certificates;
other documents e.g. application for accommodation, European health insurance card, letter of motivation etc. (for partner university).
The Erasmus+ study period at a foreign university lasts from 3 to 12 months within one academic year.
Application Evaluation
The International Cooperation Centre is responsible for evaluating submitted applications:
Verifies whether cooperation agreements have been concluded or extended with the universities selected by the applicant;
Prepares lists of applicants by faculty and retrieves the student’s weighted average grade from the LBTU information system;
Forwards the prepared lists to the relevant Erasmus+ faculty coordinators for further evaluation.
The selection takes place at the faculty level, where interviews are conducted with each applicant. The interviews and selection are carried out by a commission appointed by the Vice-Rector for Studies. During the interview, the commission evaluates students motivation and justification for choosing the particular university.
The results of the selection are communicated to students via e-mail, along with information on the next steps.
Before going abroad, the student must successfully pass the upcoming exam session following the selection. If the student has any outstanding academic debts (failed or uncompleted courses), they are not allowed to go on Erasmus+ mobility or receive the Erasmus+ scholarship – even if they have received a letter of acceptance from the partner university. If the scholarship has already been paid, the student will be required to repay the full amount to the LBTU account.
Erasmus+ funding
In order to receive funding, the student must submit the following documents either through their profile at exchange.lbtu.lv or directly to the Erasmus+ coordinator:
An Scholarship application addressed to the Rector requesting approval for participation in an internship under the Erasmus+ programme;
A signed Online Learning agreement or Learning Agreement for Studies, if in paper form.
The amount of scholarships for mobility to Erasmus+ program countries has been determined by the European Commission.
The Erasmus+ scholarship is NOT intended to cover all living expenses during the study period abroad.
Other Conditions:
The university reserves the right to request full repayment of the Erasmus+ scholarship if the student is unable to provide proof of completing the agreed internship plan or if the internship abroad is interrupted without a valid reason.
During the mobility
The student is required to spend the entire approved study period at the partner university.
If the student has the opportunity to complete their exams before the official end date and return to Latvia earlier, they must notify the Erasmus+ coordinator at least one month in advance by sending an email to: erasmus@lbtu.lv.
In such cases, the Erasmus+ scholarship will be recalculated, and the student may be required to repay a portion of the grant.
The student must comply with all terms and conditions outlined in the signed Grant agreement and study agreement.
Any changes to the study agreement must be approved by the LBTU study programme director, the Erasmus+ coordinator, and the foreign university coordinator by completing the “During the Mobility” section of the Learning Agreement.
Extension of the study period is only permitted for students who begin their Erasmus+ studies at a foreign university in the autumn semester and wish to continue into the spring semester of the same academic year.
To request an extension of the study period, the student must follow these steps:
Confirm with the partner university whether it is possible to extend the study period into the spring semester.
Consult with the LBTU programme director, faculty dean, and Erasmus+ coordinator to determine if the extension is possible from the university’s side.
Prepare changes to the Learning Agreement (Online Learning Agreement – Changes) for the spring semester, including the list of additional courses to be taken, and coordinate the course alignment with the programme director.
Submit an application for the extension of the study period to the International Cooperation Centre.
The Erasmus+ coordinator will prepare and sign the necessary changes to the Grant agreement, reflecting the updated scholarship period.
Students who begin their Erasmus+ studies in the spring semester are not eligible to extend their study period. However, they may apply for studies or an internship in the following academic year, provided that the total mobility duration (studies and/or internship) at the same level of study does not exceed 12 months.
After returning from the studies
The students must submit:
- an Online report from EU CORPORATE NOTIFICATION SYSTEM - students will receive an invitation to complete the report in their email;
a certificate/ confirmation letter from the host university indicating the start and end dates of the mobility period is mandatory. The student must request this document and submit it to LBTU International Cooperation centre afterwards;
